Standards Check Support for Driving Instructors
A Standards Check isn't simply about demonstrating that you can teach — it's an opportunity to show how effectively you help a pupil learn, manage risk and develop their own understanding.
At Training Wheelz, our experienced trainers provide professional, one-to-one Standards Check support for qualified ADIs who want to prepare properly, strengthen their teaching and approach the assessment with greater confidence.
Our focus isn't on giving you a script to follow. We'll help you reflect on your current practice, identify areas for development and make changes that work in real lessons with real pupils.
How we can help you prepare
Your Standards Check preparation should start with how you actually teach, not with trying to predict what an examiner wants to see.
We'll work with you to review your current approach, recognise what's already working well and identify the areas where development could make the biggest difference.
Support can focus on lesson planning, risk management, teaching and learning strategies, client-centred learning, effective questioning and reflection — always in the context of genuine lessons rather than a performance created just for the assessment.
Who Is Standards Check Support For?
Our one-to-one support is suitable for qualified ADIs who:
• Have received notice of an upcoming Standards Check.
• Want an independent review of their current teaching.
• Feel nervous or uncertain about the assessment.
• Want to improve areas identified in a previous Standards Check.
• Haven't had a Standards Check for some time and want to understand what is expected.
• Simply want to develop their teaching and reflective practice, whether or not a Standards Check is approaching.
Experienced Trainers
Your Standards Check is an assessment of your professional teaching, so the quality of the support you receive matters.
Christie and Kevin are very experienced trainers and have invested in additional professional development specifically focused on developing driving instructors. Kevin's ORDIT registration is in date until August 2027. Christe, like the vast majority of ORDIT-registered trainers, ios waiting for the DVSA to decide what it is going to do about how it assesses trainers in the future. Currenrtly it is doing no assessments at all!
We'll give you constructive, honest feedback. That means recognising what you're already doing well as well as identifying where changes could strengthen your lessons. The aim is not to turn you into a copy of us — it's to help you become a more effective version of the instructor you already are.
Standards Check Support Across the South West
We work with qualified driving instructors from across Devon, Somerset and the wider South West.
In-car Standards Check training can be arranged at an agreed location, and online support may also be suitable for some aspects of your preparation.
If you're unsure whether we can help where you're based, get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss the options with you.
